MEH's TikTok Account Reaches One Million Likes and 20 Million Views
The first video on this account was uploaded three years ago, and it now has 125 posts created by the Museum of Human Evolution’s educational team in coordination with Communications.
On the occasion of International Museum Day and the #LearnWithTikTok campaign, the platform highlighted its “educational, diverse, and valuable content”. It is the most praised science museum in Spanish on the platform.
‘Another great profile to be found on the platform is the Museum of Human Evolution’. TikTok has highlighted the MEH's work on this platform since it started just over three years ago, with the platform advising the museum on its content. This summer, the account reached one million likes from its 80,000 followers, with nearly 20 million views. Some of its videos have far exceeded two million views.
The MEH’s educational team, in coordination with the Communications area, develops the educational content for this account, which is primarily dedicated to prehistory and what the museum offers: "Neanderthals: Extinct?”, "I’m Miguelón, and this is my story”, "Twins in History”, "Twins of the Human Brain”, "We Are Primates”, "Woolly Mammoths Come Back to Life”, "Grandmother's Theory”, and "How Many Extinctions Have There Been on Earth?”. These are some of the video titles, which are no longer
than one minute and have been viewed by hundreds of thousands of Spanish-speaking followers.
MEH and Young Audiences
As a leading scientific outreach centre, the MEH has aimed to engage younger audiences from the start. On its TikTok account, 30% of followers are under 24, and another 40% are between 25 and 34. Only 8.5% are over 45.
The MEH is also present on other social media platforms, such as X, Facebook, and Instagram. It also has an account on Telegram and a YouTube channel, which in 2023 surpassed 600,000 views. Additionally, it has relaunched a newsletter for those who wish to subscribe via the website, and for the Museum’s Friends.
Moreover, @MiguelonMEH has its own account on X with nearly 20,000 followers. The scientific director of the MEH, Juan Luis Arsuaga, also has accounts on X and Instagram, through which, during excavations, he shared updates from sites like the Sima de los Huesos or Cueva Mayor in short videos.
