The Swedish writer of Greek origin, Theodor Kallifatides, will talk about his literary work this Wednesday, 25th of May, in the auditorium of the Museum of Human Evolution, in one of the few talks he will give during his visit to Spain on behalf of the publishing house GALAXIA GUTENBERG.

Kallifatides has published over forty books across various literary genres, including fiction, essays, poetry and memoirs. His mastery is a distinction shared by only a few contemporary authors. His work has been translated into more than twenty languages and in a short time he has become a literary genius in Spain with titles such as ‘Another Life’ (‘Otra vida por vivir’), ‘Mothers and Sons’ (‘Madres e hijos’), ‘The Past is not a Dream (‘Lo pasado no es un sueño’), ‘The Siege of Troy’ (‘El asedio de Troya’) and ‘Timandra’, all published by Galaxia Gutenberg. The author will talk to readers about his literary career, which usually touches on Greece and his life as a Greek emigrant. He has received a number of awards, including the Greek National Prize for Testimonial Literature and the Greek National Prize for Literature.

Kallifatides was born in Greece in 1938 and emigrated to Sweden in 1964, where he began his literary career. He has translated major authors such as Ingmar Bergman and August Strindberg from Swedish into Greek, as well as Giannis Ritsos and Mikis Theodorakis from Greek into Swedish.  The renowned writer will talk about the origins of his writing and his experience as an emigrant in Sweden. This author has lived through the effects of two world wars, great economic hardship, emigration and the crises that immigrants commonly face in their host countries. All of his experiences have shaped his writing.

The talk will begin at 8:15 pm in the MEH auditorium, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
