Queen Sofia extracts a fossil from the gran dolina site in atapuerca

She has actively participated in the excavation of the TD10 level. 

It is most likely a bone fragment from a horse, specifically the rib, which "is the best represented species" at that level of the excavations, as José María Bermúdez de Castro, co-director of the archaeological site, explained.
